While the occupation does not care to provide a justification for prohibition, or falsely claims that many of them have been allowed to enter in the past, the repeated excuse is the possibility of "dual use" of the chairs for military purposes, as if the Palestinian resistance factions in the Gaza Strip could use them to manufacture a missile, for example.
However, international humanitarian organizations, such as Amnesty International, do not hesitate to classify this measure as genocide, because it is not limited to wheelchairs, but also includes portable toilets, sleeping bags, plastic sheets, bandages, diapers, and tent poles, in addition to wheelchair batteries, X-ray equipment, and prosthetic equipment.
Human Rights Watch stressed the indiscriminate nature of the procedure, given that the occupation authorities resort to banning a substance after they had allowed it, demanding the exception of medical equipment, disability benefits, eyeglass technology, walking aids, crutches, and hearing aids, to no avail, of course.
