"Albania is not for sale".. Public outrage against the "Trump Family" project besieges Tirana's government

Afrasianet - Protests  against a planned tourism project in the Zvernik district of Flora continued in the Albanian capital Tirana on Saturday for the 21st day in a row.

Thousands of Albanians took part in the demonstration, which was organized under the slogan "Albania is not for sale".

Protesters gathered in Iskandar Bey Square to protest the sale of one of Zvernik's beaches as part of a tourism project said to be linked to US President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner.

The demonstrators marched to the Prime Minister's Office on "Martyrs of the Nation" Street, carrying banners, slogans and Albanian flags.

The demonstrations witnessed the wide participation of members of the Albanian community and expatriates coming from several European countries to support the popular movement.

After delivering speeches in front of the Prime Minister's Building, protesters continued their march through the streets of Tirana, confirming that their protest activities would continue on a daily basis until Prime Minister Edi Rama formally tendered his resignation.

Albanian media recently reported that the Special Prosecutor's Office (exceptional) had opened an investigation into the project.
In previous statements to CNN, Prime Minister Edi Rama denied claims that the Zvernik project belongs to the Trump family, and its cost is estimated at about $4 billion.

Police used water cannons to disperse protesters in the first days of the demonstrations, which began on May 30 with thousands of people participating.

Since late May, demonstrators have been taking to the streets to protest the project, which includes the construction of a luxury hotel, which is planned to be built on nature reserve land.

The wave of demonstrations began after a barbed wire fence appeared around a quiet beach in the coastal region of Zvernik, about 100 km (100 miles) southwest of the capital Tirana.
