The Peace Council is a U.S. project led by Trump that seeks to impose Washington's influence on the international system and undermine the role of the United Nations.

This resurfaces the debate on the "Peace Council" launched by US President Donald Trump in January 2026.
The Council emerged from UN Security Council Resolution 2803 issued in 2026. Year 2025. This "peace council" adopted the U.S. peace plan for Gaza and gave it the authority to administer the Gaza Strip during a time-open transitional period. Analysts and observers have argued that this "peace council" was not limited to Gaza, but was essentially an attempt by the United States, especially its president, Donald Trump, to make it an alternative to the United Nations to be under the full control of Washington.
The Peace Council's charter, published on January 18, 2026, sets out its objectives with priorities to be based on "promoting stability, restoring legitimate governance, and ensuring lasting peace in conflict zones." Donald Trump has appointed himself president of the organization for life, with extraordinary powers that give him the power to interpret the Charter, appoint members of the Peace Council, form its various bodies, and even give him the power to choose his successor.
In addition, membership in this "club" is closed, and is obtained by direct invitation by Donald Trump himself, provided that the contribution of candidates for membership is not less than $1 billion per member, provided that decisions are made by a majority of votes, and subject to the approval of the president before ratification to be effective.
This structure is fundamentally different from the principles of the United Nations, where all states are equal and Security Council resolutions are made only with the consent of all the permanent members of the Security Council.
The structure of the Peace Council is based on a hierarchical structure in which the United States, especially its President Donald Trump, has the decisive voice and is not bound by the positions of the other permanent members of the Security Council or other members of the Council who are elected periodically.
This has led Moscow and Beijing to abstain from voting on Resolution 2803. They express their reservations about the expanded mandate of the Peace Council.
Washington's Logic: "Whoever is not with us is against us"
All of this makes the Peace Council an attempt to build a U.S.-controlled alternative to the United Nations. The Polish Center for Oriental Studies explicitly points out Donald Trump's desire to create an organization that would "challenge the foundations of the current system of international organizations," while the German Deutsche Welle Foundation notes that the U.S. president's idea is an attempt to propose an alternative to the United Nations by finding an alternative institution to it.
The United Nations, despite its many shortcomings, is still the only global platform for forces that oppose U.S. unilateral hegemony and call for global multilateralism, led by Russia and China.
The creation of parallel structures at the global level would inevitably deepen global contradictions. Rather than seeking consensus through the Security Council, states and world powers may find themselves forced to choose between two competing systems, increasing the risk of violating international law and pushing for the adoption of double standards of global norms, rather than pushing conflicts to escalate rather than seeking to control and contain them, as stipulated in the UN Charter.
The establishment of the Peace Council constitutes an American approach to strike at multipolarity and ensure that the Americans impose their unilateral hegemony over the world in line with American interests, at a time when the world is witnessing the erosion of American power.
A project on the scale of Trump's personal interests
Since its launch in January 2026, the Peace Council has been subjected to a flurry of criticism that the project is a reflection of Donald Trump's personal whims and interests, rather than the goal of ensuring international security.
The dimension related to the funding of the council is one of the most important indications that the council reflects Trump's personal interests, especially since membership of the council can only be obtained at the invitation of Trump personally, provided that the contribution of the nominee for membership of the council is not less than one billion US dollars, noting that a large number of investigations have proven that these amounts will be transferred to finance projects related to institutions owned by Donald Trump's family and his close associates, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has put forward a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that guarantees contracts for his company to build skyscrapers along the coast of the Gaza Strip.
This has led the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Washington to consider the Peace Council as a fundraising tool for Donald Trump, his family, and their cronies.
The report from the 2026 Munich Security Conference considered that Donald Trump and his entourage are trying to "entrench the role of the United States in the world according to a narrow and very personal understanding at the expense of the national interests of the United States."
The BBC quoted a number of observers as saying that the Peace Council is nothing but a personal project of Trump "who does not hide his obsession with seeking the Nobel Peace Prize", while the British newspaper "The Guardian" considered that the Council is "a farm for Trump, who is trying to establish a global imperial rule based on his decisions alone."
The council contradicts Trump's claims that he seeks to create an international organization more efficient than the United Nations, and reflects his desire to impose a personal legacy that will make him a pivotal global figure even after his presidential term ends in 2029. The board can be seen as a reflection of Trump's desire to promote his "personal brand."
Rather than seeking to promote collective diplomacy, Trump is seeking to impose an international order based on the principle of "one leader, one club." As the world moves toward a multipolar system, the US president's behavior will increase mistrust among countries, especially major powers, in addition to fragmenting international organizations and institutions that are already suffering from structural crises.
Trump's Quest to Undermine the World Order and Dismantle the United Nations
With regard to the United Nations, by creating the Peace Council, Trump seeks to create a global governance structure with a single center of power to replace the United Nations, deepening the contradictions between states.
The European External Action Service (EEA) has expressed concern about the "excessive concentration of power" in the hands of the U.S. leader. Despite U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's declaration that the U.S. has no intention or plans to replace the U.N. with a peace council, the text of the Peace Council's founding document explicitly criticizes the U.N. and its ineffectiveness in resolving conflicts, and presents itself as a more effective alternative to conflict resolution.
It is worth noting that the Trump administration has already announced its withdrawal from several UN treaties and ending funding for peacekeeping operations, revealing the White House's true intentions. This has raised suspicions among a large number of international organizations, as Human Rights Watch has warned against replacing the United Nations with a peace council whose builders lack institutions with various functions such as the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.
The initiative exposed a rift between the United States and its traditional partners: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that they would not participate in the Peace Council (for specific reasons), while Denmark, Spain, Norway, France, and Sweden expressed concern that the United Nations could be undermined. Powerful countries in the Global South also rejected Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council, led by Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva has called on BRICS member states to strengthen cooperation with each other, warning that the Peace Council poses a threat to the organization's project to consolidate a multipolar world order.
This makes the Peace Council an attempt by Washington to consolidate its unilateral hegemony over the world, rather than a way to resolve international disputes.
