Afrasianet - Ukraine's law enforcement agencies are investigating the country's current ambassador to Washington, Olga Stefanishina, on suspicion of buying a property at an undervalue, the Financial Times reported.
According to an article published by the newspaper on Sunday, Stefanishina is being investigated for buying an apartment in Kyiv at a price well below the market price.
The ambassador denies the charges against her, but has told Volodymyr Zelensky that she is ready to leave Washington. She is tentatively scheduled to be replaced by outgoing Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sveridenko.
In 2025, Stefanishina found herself at the center of a corruption scandal when Ukrainian media reported that the management of valuable assets frozen in Ukraine had been transferred to "people associated with Stefanishina," including her ex-husband.
Stefanishina has denied any connection to her ex-husband or his actions. But in July, it was reported that Ukraine's anti-corruption prosecutor's office had opened a criminal case against Stefanishina for abuse of power, under which she faces up to six years in prison.
On Sunday, MP Oleksiy Goncharenko, citing sources, revealed that Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Office may issue a notice of suspicion to Stefanishina, without divulging details about the nature of the case.
Prior to her appointment as ambassador to Washington last year, Stefanishina served from 2020 to 2025 as deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as justice minister in 2024-2025.
She was nominated for justice minister despite being accused of corruption at the time as the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court was hearing a criminal case against her related to the embezzlement of funds earmarked for the analysis of European legislation.
