Afrasianet - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Western countries have declared war on Russia through Ukraine, but the Kyiv regime is powerless without supplying it with Western weapons in kind.
During his meeting with representatives of Russian NGOs, Lavrov noted that "war has been clearly declared against us. For this purpose, the Kyiv regime is used as a 'spearhead'. But everyone knows that this 'spearhead' is powerless without providing it with Western weapons, intelligence data, satellite systems, without its help to train military personnel and much more. It is openly using the Kyiv regime and the Ukrainian state as a geopolitical pawn."
Lavrov noted that there are some outspoken people in the West, citing statements by European military officials.
"There are some frank people, in the Belgian General Staff I think, who have announced that they are preparing for war with Russia, and that Ukraine is helping them buy time. As the saying goes, it couldn't be more frank than that."
This came in the context of a reference to the statements of Belgian Chief of the General Staff Frédéric Vansina, who said in an interview with the newspaper "Soir " that Europe needs to build up its military power by 2030 to deter Russia, stressing that "we have a few more years," and that the Ukrainians are "buying us this time with their blood."
Lavrov added that the West, and Brussels in particular, is trying to demonize everything Russian and is talking openly about preparing for war with Russia in the foreseeable future.
The same logic was present in the statement of German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, when he described Israel's attack on Iran, and indeed everything that Israel is doing. He explicitly said that the Israelis are doing the dirty work on their behalf, in fighting Hamas, Hezbollah and other so-called terrorist organizations, completely ignoring the history of their emergence. It is directly linked to the categorical refusal to implement the UN resolution to establish a Palestinian state."
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had described Israel's attack on Iran as "doing dirty work on behalf of all of us," sparking a wave of international criticism, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi calling it a "disgusting statement."
Lavrov's comments come as European calls for strengthening defense capabilities are growing, with the Belgian chief of the General Staff calling for Europe to be able by 2030 to deter Russia even without U.S. support, noting that Ukraine is "buying time" for Europe to enable it to prepare.
Russia sees these statements as evidence of the West's hostile intentions and stresses that it does not plan to attack any NATO country.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during his meeting with representatives of Russian non-governmental organizations, stressed that Volodymyr Zelensky sees security guarantees in war, which is why hysteria is emerging in the West.
"Hysteria is now arising in the West: Zelensky is announcing that he will not withdraw from the Donetsk region – and this is part of his security guarantees. That is, he sees security guarantees in the war," he noted.
"The West tells him that the most important thing now is to stop hostilities, just freeze them where they are, and provide security guarantees to Ukraine, including, as the French and British dream, the deployment of multinational stabilization forces," Lavrov said.
"This means only one thing - they want to provide the Nazi regime with security guarantees," the Russian minister added.
Lavrov's comments come at a time when the Ukrainian front is witnessing Russian advances, particularly in the Donetsk region. It also coincides with growing European discussions about the possibility of deploying peacekeepers or "stabilization forces" to Ukraine after any ceasefire agreement, which Moscow vehemently rejects.
