Afrasianet - Ankara has begun talks with NATO allies on the possibility of involving Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain at the alliance leaders' summit in Ankara on July 7-8, Turkey Today reported.
The newspaper quoted Turkish diplomatic sources as saying that the presence of these countries, the "Istanbul Cooperation Initiative" countries, at the NATO meeting table in Ankara would represent "a real opportunity to reactivate a mechanism that has long suffered from underperformance."
It pointed out that the possible participation of the Gulf states in the NATO leaders' summit in Ankara does not indicate any possible military clash with Iran.
According to the sources, this cooperation initiative is gaining new significance, as the partnership framework, which was dormant during crises, has become an effective tool, which is activated in cooperation with countries that are currently bearing the brunt of regional instability.
