The Daily Beast: What really scares Trump? And why should Melania worry?

Afrasianet - At a time when international crises are escalating and political scandals are mounting in the United States, President Donald Trump's name is coming  to  the fore from two parallel angles, as he finds himself caught between geopolitical challenges for which he has no solutions, and a legal battle approaching the threshold of the East Wing of the White House to dig into the first lady's relationship with the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein 's thorny dossier.

In a report published by the American website Daily Beast, journalist William Vayancourt reviewed the conversation that took place on a podcast program titled "Inside Trump's Mind" between writer Michael Wolf and the show's presenter, Joanna Coles.

In that episode of the podcast, Wolff, a Trump biographer, said that the president "wants to create conflicts that put him in the center of attention and distract him from other issues, but he doesn't want those conflicts to pose a real danger to him."

Wolff argues that Trump is exploiting global uncertainty to announce lightning strikes, such as his alleged invasion of Venezuela, which are in essence merely a "distraction" that does not entail real action or personal danger.

In his report, Vayancourt noted that Trump fears the moment when he hits a situation in which he cannot maneuver with words, such as Russia's recent nuclear threats or the massive protests in Iran, where Trump appears to be completely absent.

On the other side of the crisis, Wolff has opened a sensitive legal front over America's first lady Melania Trump's relationship with the late billionaire sex scandal Jeffrey Epstein.

Wolf said Melania did not expect to be forced to undergo a legal cross-examination on the relationship, thanks to her lawyers' assurances that she would never have to testify about her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

But Wolff, who is waging a legal counter-legal battle against  the White House, argues that this strategy of procedural procrastination may not hold up long in the face of pressing ethical and legal questions.

Trump's biographer asked, "What can Melania tell us about her relationship and her husband's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and what does that say about the kind of people they represent?".

The official response, which was marked by a sharp personal attack on Michael Wolff, was not long overdue, with White House communications director Stephen Chung calling him a "despicable liar" and accusing him of fabricating stories stemming from the imagination of a sick woman who had "Trump syndrome."

Despite the media hype, Trump continues to exploit the fact that "no one knows the truth about what's going on" to deceive everyone into a grand political play, while real existential crises remain hanging over waiting for a reaction that no one can imagine from a president who fears real confrontation as much as he loves the hype.
