Afrasianet - Some US senators have called for an investigation into the activities and sentences of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Karim Khan.
The call came in a letter sent by lawmakers to the ICC Assembly of States Parties.
U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S. South Carolina, listed on the Russian list of terrorists and extremists), Ben Cardin (D-Maryland), John Thun (R-D.D., South Dakota), Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), Johnny Ernest (R-Iowa) and John Fiterman (D-Pennsylvania), called on the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court to investigate allegations of "misconduct" against Khan.
"First, Prosecutor Khan broke the law when he requested arrest warrants for Israeli government officials. Second, as is known through numerous media reports, notably from an article published by the Associated Press on October 25, 2024, allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Prosecutor Khan surfaced, at the time when he decided not to send his team to meet with Israeli legal representatives and instead, announced a request for an arrest warrant. If these allegations prove to be true, we urge the Assembly to take all necessary steps within its powers, including voting on the removal of Karim Khan and reconsidering the results of investigations conducted under the supervision of Prosecutor General Khan."
"Any action by the ICC to issue arrest warrants or warrants against Israeli officials pending the conclusion of an investigation into the serious allegations against Prosecutor Khan would call into question the court's actions and threaten its credibility. We urge you to seriously consider the concerns we have raised."
In May, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan requested arrest warrants for three Hamas leaders, as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, all of whom are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
