"Double standards" and "wisdom in the balance of power"

Afrasianet - Jawad Boulos - Recently, global platforms have been witnessing a sharp increase in the number of voices condemning the policies of the Israeli government towards the Palestinians, and unity in the language of condemnation of the practices and crimes of its army, both in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank.

Condemnations have intensified at various popular, official, institutional, religious and economic levels, to the point that we feel that the world is witnessing a qualitative shift in the positions of several social, economic and political structures, and within many centers of power, which previously avoided harming or criticizing Israel's reputation At the official political level, the Israeli government is facing a flood of statements of condemnation and its demand to stop its brutal war; some of these countries, in response to Israel's persistence, have announced that they will recognize the Palestinian state, while others have remained in the position of strategic allies, with the United States at the forefront of these countries, the most important and powerful of these countries, and other countries have traded the interests of their regimes for Palestinian blood, defending their silence on crimes as "royalties" and godfathers of credit and guarantees for the stability of their country The broad and unprecedented international politician behind the condemnation of the war and its brutality.

I will not list the names of those countries, which are many, but I will draw attention to the position of the Dutch ministers who resigned from the government in protest against its position on the war on Gaza, as well as the position of the right-wing Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who criticized the continuation of the war, called for its cessation and denounced the killing of innocent journalists by the occupation army.

In a remarkable position issued by a right-wing leadership allied with Netanyahu and the Israeli right, she pointed to the need to stop settlement expansion in the West Bank. Contrary to the official positions of the governments, the scenes of the massive popular protests in many countries of the world will remain testimonies of the awakening of the consciences of these peoples, and their transition to stand on the bright bank of history, and will be remembered as a milestone of the awakening of these societies and their emergence from the abnormal state of "blindness" that has taken hold of the fate of our region and kept it for more than a hundred years in darkness and injustice.

Despite the disparities in positions and differences, we believe that what characterizes the general scene is the broad and unprecedented international political alignment behind the condemnation of the war and its brutality.

Many feel that this war and its horrific scenes have led to the destruction or disintegration of the most prominent products of the Second World War, and that the Jews have been singled out as "the only absolute victim of Nazism", and they reinforce their feelings with the scenes of rivers of human beings flowing in the capitals and cities of Europe and the world, stressing that what we are seeing are the reflections of the hidden liberation of the peoples of Europe, or large segments of it, and its ancient social and political structures, from the "guilt complex" under which they lived and influenced the determination of their attitudes towards Israel and its actions since the Palestinian Nakba.

The first, and even the beginnings of its current Nakba, which is still in the process of being implemented and achieved. The changes are not limited to the political landscape, but the remarkable moves in the fields of trade and economics are no less momentum.

The decision of the Norwegian Sovereign Pension Fund, which is the largest in the world, to withdraw all its investments from banks and companies that contribute to supplying and supporting the occupation army, may come as a surprise, and one of the most prominent of these decisions is the decision.

The decision to withdraw the investments, estimated at about $2 billion, not only carried two dimensions, both financially and politically, but also set a precedent and declared a blatant moral position in which Norway expressed its rejection of the occupation and Israel's aggressive policy.

The Norwegian Fund was not alone in its decision to challenge Israel's power and position in the global financial markets, as it was followed by other investment funds in Norway and in several European countries, and was accompanied by calls by major professional institutions and unions to boycott Israel economically, academically and culturally, as a means of pressuring its governments to stop the war and settlements. and stop their forced displacement.

In his successive statements, the current Pope affirmed his adherence to the positions of the late Pope Francis, and reaffirmed the Vatican's firm position calling for respect for the principles of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy with regard to the rights of the Palestinians. I can add and indicate, out of optimism, the positions of international human rights institutions that unanimously condemn Israeli government officials for horrific war crimes, and demand that they be prosecuted and criminally prosecuted; I can also use the voices of thousands of academics, intellectuals, and prominent international legal figures in their communities who stand by the victim/Palestine, and against Israel's crimes and aggression; I can emphasize the importance of the expansion of the ranks of opposition to the Netanyahu government's policy within the Jewish community, in Israel and abroad, and I can appeal to 150 scholars The Muslims, who are gathering in Istanbul these days to support Gaza, and to "build a cohesive Islamic alliance that confronts the criminal policies of the occupation and prevents the recurrence of massacres," and hope that "the Istanbul conference will turn from a mere symbolic gathering into a global platform, affirming that Gaza is the responsibility of the nation and humanity and that supporting it is a duty that cannot be postponed."

But I will stop here to return to Palestine and its concerns, as some people in Palestine feel that what happened on October 7, 2023, and the chapters that followed, are still collapsing before us, in terms of destruction, killing, and displacement, which destroyed or tore apart what was left of the dream of establishing a democratic Palestinian national state.

The members of this group ask why the Christian world on the one hand, and the Islamic Ummah on the other, have not succeeded to this day in building a "cohesive alliance" capable of supporting and saving Palestine from death and destruction. Or why did they not succeed in saving a single Palestinian child from starvation, or were killed by an Israeli pilot?

Why, despite all the global momentum in support of Gaza and support, has this world not succeeded in stopping the Israeli war and destruction machine and stopping the massacres?   Because we know the tales of "double standards", "wisdom in the balance of power", "games of thrones and interests", and a myth called "international legitimacy", we also know that there is no elevation of the rule of morality in politics and in wars against nations. We ask, why did Palestine not get its right, and why is Gaza paying the bill for the precious blood?

This is because America, since it inherited the crown of the "Great Kingdom", has become the "redeemed Sultan of the East" after being the "cowgirl", "hunter of the Indians", and the "Teacher of the Neighbours", who is unashamed and ruthless.

Because the "Nation of Islam" does not owe a single Islam, nor a single caliph, nor a single sword, Egypt has two or more Islams, and then "Al-Azhar" releases his opinion, with the promise of Gaza and thunder, and the mufti winks and regrets.

Istanbul has Islam, a caliph and scholars who call after two years of cutting Gaza's veins and arteries, to declare that "Gaza is the responsibility of the nation", and to make us understand: what are the two years in the life of a nation whose sons have been slaughtered since the dawn of Islam on the altars of the caliphs, and sultans who call on their scholars "for Andalusia if Aleppo is besieged".

Because Palestine has not recovered from its ills and has not learned from its previous calamities, the clan conflict is still raging under new names, and fighting over references and legitimacy was dangerous and has become more dangerous over the years, and the dispersion between loyalties has intensified between Kharijites and loyalists, until Gaza has become an emirate that fights and kills alone.

Our East is living difficult days and its peoples are facing unknown destinies. The struggles of the present are open to all fates and possibilities, and the only thing that is certain is that what used to be will not be; we are facing new beginnings, or perhaps the end of bad beginnings.
