Afrasianet - Author: Ambassador Ali Mohammad Krishan - In a dramatic scene, Elon Musk announced the founding of  The America Party via the X platform on June 5,  2025, as a response to the collapse of his alliance with President Donald Trump.

The spark began when Musk called Trump's massive spending bill ($2.4 trillion) a "blatant evil" and "blatant waste" of resources, prompting Trump to respond by threatening to cut government contracts with Musk's companies. Within 48 hours, the personal dispute turned into a political earthquake, resulting in Elon's announcement. Musk announced the establishment of a new political party in the United States of America to represent the "moderate centrist current inside the country.  

Despite the media momentum received by the announcement of the founding of the party, it is necessary to talk about the structural and main obstacles that stand in the way of the establishment of this party as follows: 

Legal obstacles Where US law requires that to establish a new party, 1.7 million voter signatures must be collected distributed over 50 states, varying percentages of up to 3% of voters in some of them (California). The process may take 3-5 years.  

Financial and funding obstacles: Especially since US law imposes restrictions that prevent parties from receiving donations of more than one million dollars, which is an obstacle to Musk using his wealth ($ 243 billion) directly to fund this party. 

Constitutional obstacles: According to Article II of the US Constitution, Musk is prohibited from running for the US presidency because he was born outside the US states (he was born in South Africa), which makes the party lose its advantage and leadership attractiveness.  

Despite these difficulties and obstacles, there are factors that may make this party able to bring about a change in the composition of American political life as the billionaire Musk can fund independent candidates in ten states swinging between Republicans and Democrats (such as Pennsylvania and Arizona), which could affect the two main parties in the country.   How much power and influence should be taken into account by the free media platform X with 550 million users, which will allow the fledgling party to recruit supporters and form public opinion at no cost.  

If we take polls (2025) in America, which show that 70% of Americans believe that the two parties (Republican and Democratic) do not represent them, and that 35% believe that both parties have failed to defend their interests. 

It remains to be said that the new party's proposal, if it is unsuccessful, could turn into a force so that the new party remains an influential movement without an electoral victory, thus influencing Republicans and pushing them to adopt more moderate policies in health and infrastructure.

There is also a possibility that the new party will merge with the Republicans, and this is done if Musk and Trump quickly reconcile (as Republican Representative Jamie Patronis predicted), and the party is used as leverage.  

The latest possibility is organizational failure, the complexities of the establishment and the escalation of disputes that may push the idea to evaporate, especially if Musk withdraws to focus on his business.  

The bottom line is that Musk's initiative is not just an angry reaction; it reflects a deep crisis of representation in American political life. Although the chances of becoming a real electoral force do not exceed 20% (due to the aforementioned legal and constitutional obstacles).

Even if the party fails, it has already succeeded in breaking the long-standing deadlock, and the door Musk opened may not lead to power, but it will certainly be a game-changer.
