Afrasianet - Never before has human history accumulated wealth so unfairly in the hands of a few, nor has it ever seen wealth become a weapon capable of upending the world order.
Across movies, the US president's oval room is no longer a sight alien to our minds, but seeing Elon Musk in it, with his distinctive hat, naughty son hanging from his neck, and casual clothes, makes him the most exciting symbol in this scene.
When the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the government organization that has long distributed aid and funding around the world, was shut down, Musk stood in front of the press in a sarcastic and arrogant tone to assert that shutting it down was the right decision. As his son X (note the name!) joked with President Trump, "You're not the president, you have to leave," Trump couldn't help but smile as he signed the agency's closure decree.
At that moment, Musk had more wealth than a billion people around the world. His view clearly revealed that he considered cutting humanitarian aid, including to fight AIDS, in Africa, an "economic achievement" for his country.
But ironically, this closed institution cost the U.S. government only $65 billion a year, less than 1% of the state budget, and less than even a tenth of Musk's own wealth.
When the New York Times reported criticizing the decision, asserting that millions of children would face death because of it, the Trump administration treated it carelessly, arguing that traditional journalism had become an "old fashion" that did not deserve attention.
The collapse of human values
Musk did not look at the agency's work from a humanitarian or ethical perspective, but asked the same question that became the mantra of the new US administration: "How much will we gain from this?" This question has become the standard by which they measure everything from NATO membership to the Palestinian cause, from trade relations to climate agreements, and even humanitarian aid.
Trump, who made his fortune from business, has surrounded himself with a team of billionaires who espouse the same logic, a cold logic that does not recognize moral values and does not know the meaning of empathy.
With this mentality, they see the killing of 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza not as a tragedy, but rather as an opportunity to turn the Strip's coasts into tourist resorts after two million people were expelled from their homes. They believe that funding for HIV/AIDS treatment in Africa is "wasteful," just as they see any project that does not bring direct profit to the United States as not worth existing.
As head of the Government Efficiency Ministry, Musk took his first steps by shutting down USAID and laying off thousands of employees, which was only the beginning.
It is not difficult to guess his next step: everything that does not generate money will close. For him, this is normal, even necessary, especially as the circle around him demands more, urging him to make harsher and bloodier decisions.
Paypal mafia
As Trump's dominance increased, the American media began to focus on the narrow circle surrounding him, which received many names, but the most prominent was the "The PayPal Mafia." This term led the Western press, led by the Guardian, to prepare files and analyses on this group, and even Wikipedia included its own page.
This league includes Max Levshin, Keith Raboa, Red Hoffman, Peter Thiel, David Sachs, and Elon Musk. They all have two things in common: all of them previously worked for PayPal, and all of them became billionaires thanks to technology. But there's another common denominator: they all support Trump.
These are businessmen refined by Silicon Valley's harsh environment, where there is no place for mercy, and where the strongest survive. In their world, there is no place for fair competition, only for the absolute winner and the ultimate loser. They managed to stay at the top by mercilessly crushing rivals, and now, they are the ones shaping American politics. Their first task was to break the traditional bureaucracy and destroy the political norms and rules that had governed Washington for decades.
Therefore, it was not surprising that some of them called Trump the "whip of God," the tool they would use to implement their dark vision. Musk is not late to move, he has already begun to take his first steps.
Do you think these technologists will make our lives easier? If you think so, you're wrong. Peter Thiel does not believe in democracy, and David Sachs opposes multiculturalism.
In their vision for the future, survival will be for only the smartest and strongest. They believe that survivors in this world are those with the most intelligent children, and it's no surprise that Musk has 13 children.
Technology fiefdoms
In a country with the largest military and the strongest economy in the world, these shifts have a global impact. When Trump was sworn in as president of the United States, he was standing by the tech giants: the owners of Amazon, Facebook and X, whose combined wealth exceeded the budgets of all African countries.
These outrageous riches gave them a sense of being out of account, just as was the case with feudal lords in medieval Europe, this time with the weapons of technology, not swords. They have built untouchable empires for themselves, believing that they can reshape the world as they please.
No one dares to challenge Google, YouTube or Instagram, not only because of technical superiority, but because they now enjoy absolute political protection. When the EU tried to impose new regulations on these companies, Trump threatened them, saying, "We will impose economic sanctions on you."
Now, these companies are providing our data in the Middle East to Israel, to help it kill more innocent people, can they be trusted to do anything good for humanity?
The desire to end the war between Ukraine and Russia stemmed not from their eagerness to stop the bloodshed, but because Ukraine is rich in resources that big tech companies need.
These empires target not only Muslims, but Europe, Canada, Panama, Mexico, and China as part of their plans.
Perhaps this is the only motivation that will push the world to form an international coalition to confront this unbridled force, and stop the new princes before they burn the entire world.
