Afrasianet - Adviser to the Government of the Donetsk People's Republic Igor Kimakovsky said that the Ukrainian army tried to keep the village of Shevchenko, located on the border of the Donetsk Republic and the Dnipropetrovsk region at any cost.

This is due to the presence of one of the largest lithium reservoirs in Ukraine in it.

The Russian news agency "TASS" quoted Kimakovsky as saying: "The village of Shevchenko is another village that contains a lithium reservoir. One of the reasons why the Ukrainian army clung desperately to the village. The Armed Forces of Ukraine sent large numbers of their soldiers to defend it, and most of them eventually died."

Russia.. Development of a new generation of batteries for drones and modern technologies

On Thursday, June 26th, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of the villages of Novosergievka and Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic.

The bulk of the Ukrainian troops defending these two villages were destroyed. The Ukrainian armed forces are now trying to withdraw the rest of their garrison to the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Lithium is the lightest and most reactive solid metal and is of great importance in modern industries. Its most important uses are:

1. Rechargeable batteries (70% of global use)
•    Electric car batteries  (e.g. Tesla, BYD ).
•    Batteries  of electronic devices (phones, laptops, smart tablets).
•    Preferably because:• High energy density.• High charge/discharge efficiency.• Long lifespan.

2. Glass and ceramic industries
•    Added to improve:• Heat resistance (e.g. glass stoves).• Durability of glass and ceramics.• Transparency of glass.

3. Alloying
•    Mixed with aluminum and magnesium to make lightweight  alloys used in:• Aircraft industry.
• Spacecraft.• Structural parts of vehicles.

4. Medical applications
•    Treatment of bipolar disorder:• stabilizes mood and reduces manic episodes (medicines such as lithiumcarbonate).
•    Studied for its potential role in the treatment of: • Alzheimer's. • Treatment-resistant depression.

5. Lubrication of industrial motors
•    It is used in grease (Lithium Grease) because: • Water and heat resistance. • Stability under high pressure.

6. Cooling systems
•    Refrigerated in nuclear reactors (lithium-6 isotope).
•    Commercial air conditioners.

7. Manufacture of polymers and rubber
•    Catalyst in the production  of elastomer and tires.

8. Emerging uses
•    Solid-state batteries (future technology for electric vehicles).
•    Energy storage in electricity grids.

Amazing facts:
•    Rarity: 0.002% of the earth's crust only.
•    Production: 90% of the world's lithium comes from Australia, Chile, and China.
Lithium is nicknamed "white gold" today because of its pivotal role in the clean energy and technology revolution.
