Afrasianet - Ukrainian media and authorities reported explosions accompanied by power outages in several regions of the country against the backdrop of a rocket attack and drones by Russian forces on Wednesday morning.
Air strikes across Ukraine were on alert amid reports of Russian Kinjal and Kalibr missiles launched towards its territory.
The US ambassador in Kiev said Ukraine was currently under a large-scale attack from Russia with ballistic missiles and drones, while Poland raised its warplanes in the air due to the "intense activity" of Russian aviation.
Explosions were reported in Kharkov (north), Khmelnitsky and Vinnytsa as well as Ivano-Frankivsk (west), where at least five powerful explosions were heard, according to local reports, while air defense systems were activated in the Lvov region.
Air defenses were also reported to be working near the city of Cherkassy (center), and the agency "Novosti" quoted the coordinator of the pro-Russian underground resistance in Ukraine Sergey Lebedev that an air strike targeted Cherkassy airport, where Ukrainian warplanes take off to launch attacks on Russian positions in the Zaporozhye axis.
Authorities in the Dnipropetrovsk region reported that an industrial facility had been damaged by the strikes, while authorities in the Ukraine-controlled regions of Zaporozhye confirmed damage to infrastructure facilities.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Germann Galoshenko cited a widespread power outage as a precautionary measure due to a large-scale Russian missile attack on energy sector facilities.
Ukrainerju National Energy Corporation confirmed emergency power outages in the Kharkov, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporozhye, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovgrad regions.
It is noteworthy that Russia began targeting energy facilities, defense industry, military command and communications in Ukraine since October 10, 2022, two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, which was carried out by Ukrainian intelligence.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed that its forces do not attack residential buildings and social infrastructure in Ukraine.
