Afrasianet  - Iraqi counter-terrorism forces liberated the Makkawi area of the old city of Mosul yesterday, local media reported.

"The counterterrorism forces liberated an area in the old city of Mosul and raised the Iraqi flag on its buildings," the commander of the operations, Abdul Amir Rasheed Yarallah, said in a statement.

The security forces are still fighting the liberation of the last strongholds of the organization "Daash" in the city of Mosul, where it made significant progress on the ground and was able to kill hundreds of elements of the organization and the destruction of equipment, according to security sources.
