Afrasianet - British journalist Owen Jones said Israel is the number one source of terrorism and instability in the Middle East, but the West continues to ignore this fact, and this will lead to a new catastrophe in Iran.
The columnist added in the British newspaper The Guardian that "one of us feels like losing our minds" as he reads the Group of Seven statement that "Iran is the main source of terrorism in the region" and that "Israel has the right to defend itself."
The author questioned the "state of madness that grips politicians and decision-makers" for acquitting Israel, adding that it has committed every possible war crime in Gaza, launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, attacked Iran without evidence or justification, bombed civilians in Lebanon and Beirut, and occupied and destabilized parts of Syria.
He went on to wonder that those who "enthusiastically applauded the massacres in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan" are still demanding more bloodshed, as if they had not made a mistake about all the destruction and violence they called for in this country.
He pointed out that the West's wars in the Middle East, which many are now encouraging again, after the attacks of September 11, 2001, killed more than 4.5 million people and the promoters of these wars paid no price for it.
Iraq, Iran and nuclear
Jones criticized former British broadcaster Andrew Neal, who is known for supporting the invasion of Iraq, after the latter said "brazenly" that peace advocates in Iran are extremists and stand on the side of a "medieval religious dictatorship."
Six months before the invasion of Iraq, Neil claimed that schools and hospitals on the outskirts of Baghdad were hiding secret chemical and biological weapons facilities, and these claims proved untrue but too late.
The author compared this propaganda rhetoric to the position on Iran today, where Israel and the West accuse Tehran of seeking a nuclear weapon, while US intelligence reports confirm the opposite.
Israel is the only country proven to have a huge nuclear arsenal, yet refuses to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and refuses to submit to any inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Israel is the source of terrorism
"Israel's insolence is unbelievable," Jones said, claiming that 24 Israelis killed in Iranian attacks is direct evidence of the Iranian regime's evil, while it killed more than twice as many Palestinians trying to get aid in a single massacre.
The article referred to a recent report on the BBC's coverage of the massacres in Gaza, which revealed that every Israeli death received 33 times more media coverage than every Palestinian martyr.
While Iran should avoid targeting Israeli civilians, Kenneth Roth, former director of Human Rights Watch, said that "Israel's mixing of military and civilian sites makes it difficult to identify Iranian missile targets."
Terrorism has come to mean any violence practiced by enemies of the West, and warned that failure to hold politicians and those calling for war accountable will lead everyone to the abyss.
