After the failure of the Switzerland conference on Ukraine. How will the West behave in its new-old orientations?

Afrasianet - The effects of the Switzerland conference on Ukraine, which failed to form a consensus on the items put forward at the conference, continue to be a concern for the Atlantic countries, led by the United States, which are looking for alternatives that enable them to say that there is an international consensus to support Ukraine against Russia.

The international conference held in Switzerland, in which representatives of more than 90 countries participated. Russia did not attend,  of course.Participants in the conference declared that achieving peace "will require the participation and dialogue of all parties."

The United States wanted to rally international support for the so-called "Zelensky peace formula," but the final communiqué of the conference included only 3 of the 10 items contained in the version originally presented by Kiev, which Russia had considered "detached from reality."

Brazil and China refused to attend the summit, arguing that without Russia participation, such a meeting would be futile. Other countries, particularly from the Global South, have apologized for attending for the same reasons, or confirmed that they are not represented at the highest level.

But there is another: several countries (such as China, Brazil, South Africa, and Turkey) have launched or proposed their own peace initiatives. In recent years, several countries have already facilitated negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, for example on the exchange of male and female prisoners or the export of grain via the Black Sea.

On a broader level, many countries see the war in Ukraine as a conflict between the United States and Russia. Manoeuvres, diplomatic in this context, seem quite logical in order to position themselves well on the international stage.

The main objective of the conference was to put pressure on Russia by obtaining the support of its friends to impose the conditions of the West on it.

But the results of the conference showed, Zelensky  failed to achieve the goals he sought. Chief among them was the support of Russia's invited friends, in an attempt to dispel the image of recent military setbacks suffered by his troops.

The main objective of the conference was to put pressure on the Russia, by gaining the support of its friends, to impose the West's conditions and dictates through a unilateral roadmap to end the conflict in Ukraine, completely contrary to the realities on the ground. Moscow therefore considered it a "waste of time", especially in light of the peace initiative presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which leads to a final and sustainable solution that saves the face of the West.

The signs of failure began to appear on the conference even before it was held, with the tendency of many invited countries from the friends of Russia, as well as countries that stand on the sidelines, not to attend it, because of its lack of seriousness, because how can serious solutions for peace be found in the absence of the state concerned, i.e. Russia?

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis stressed during his presentation of the conference program to the media that it was "a first step, but there will be no peace process without Russia. The question is not whether or not Russia participate, but when?"

However, some countries friendly to Moscow later preferred to present their own vision on how to end the conflict, which revolves around the inevitability of Russia participation in the next edition of the conference, or in any other framework for peace negotiations. While China refused to attend in the absence of Russia, Brazil and South Africa were represented only by envoys, while India was represented at the ministerial level, according to AFP. These four countries form with Russia bloc ""Brix" political-economic, which seeks to end American hegemony and the unipolar era.

The final statement of the conference reflects the extent to which the West has failed to undermine the Russia's position as a global power, as the statement disappointed Kiev and its supporters and below the hoped-for level, under the influence of pressure and interventions from friendly countries, as it dropped difficult points such as the form of settlement, and the question of whether Ukraine should join NATO or not. However, 13 countries abstained from signing the final communiqué, in a severe blow to the efforts of Kiev and its backers, due to their objection to a number of problematic clauses in the statement. The conclusion, which focused on "the need for the participation of all parties in order to achieve peace," and "emphasizing the territorial integrity of Ukraine and not using food security as a weapon." Originally, the last clause is directed at Europe, which contributed to the disruption of the previous grain shipping agreement, and its countries monopolized Ukraine exports of this basic and vital material and deprived developing countries and those most in need and the poorest of them.

It is noteworthy that the countries that refused to sign the final communiqué, apart from having close relations with Moscow, 6 of them belong to the Group of Twenty "G20", which includes the most important economic powers in the world, namely Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, India and Indonesia. In addition to the countries of Armenia, Libya, Bahrain, the United Arabic Emirates, Thailand, Colombia and the Vatican. Jordan and Iraq also withdrew their signatures, bringing the number of rejectionists to 15, including 6 Arab countries.

While the Qatar, which signed the statement, through its Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, stressed the need for Moscow's participation in order to reach a real peace, the Morocco refrained from attending this conference, as it was absent at a previous conference in support of the Ukraine as well, in line with its neutral diplomacy towards the conflict.

Days before the Switzerland peace conference is scheduled to be held in Ukraine in an alpine resort in Lucerne on June 15-16, June, Ukraine's relentless efforts to engage the "Global South" in the conference to pressure Russia appeared to have failed.

This came despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's shuttle tours in Europe and Asia, since the end of the month before the conference, to convince more active countries from outside Europe and the American continent to attend the Switzerland peace conference in Ukraine to end the ongoing war in Ukraine since February February 2022 without the participation of Russia second party to the war.

In the context, Brazil and China, following a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Celso Amorim, senior adviser to the Brazilian president, called for an international conference recognized by "both Russia and Ukraine" to discuss proposals to stop the war, thus putting forward an "alternative" to the unilateral Kiev plan, supported only by the West, although the joint statement issued by the two countries includes a repetition of the position expressed by China, at the same time, on the need to convene an "international peace conference, at the same time." Russia"This is the first joint statement China has signed with another country on the Ukraine war," Bloomberg reported.

Other visions that have begun to emerge after this failure of the United States and the Atlantic are based on the possibility of mobilizing other forces that were not previously listed and may be outside the usual context.

In this direction, the United States of America is moving towards wealthy countries, including, of course, the Gulf oil states, to contribute to supporting Ukraine, and even to cover the continued flow of weapons after America's allies are tired of the pressure posed by supplying Ukraine with weapons and its effects on the economies of those countries.

There is also a supportive trend in pushing international organizations and civil society organizations, under pressure from the United States, many of which are funded, to adopt pro-Ukrainian positions to show that the societies in which these organizations operate stand against Russia in their own operation, which everyone has always known that Russia is defending its national security in the face of Atlantic aggression.

Despite all these attempts, the inevitable failure will be the fate of this trend, as the world is heading into a new era in which hegemony will have no place, despite the attempts of the United States and the Atlantic to use all means to maintain this hegemony.

Time is no longer working in favor of the West, and the biggest example of this is what is happening from Africa, whose countries are emerging from under the cloak of the West, which has always been an enemy of peoples.
