The Swedish authorities allow a copy of the Holy Quran to be burned in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm
Afrasianet - The Swedish authorities issued a decision allowing the leader of the Danish extreme right-wing party, Rasmus Paludan, to burn a copy of the Noble Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy building in Stockholm.
The Stockholm Police Department stated that Paludan had obtained permission to organize a demonstration near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.
And the Swedish state television stated that the Swedish journalist, Chang Frick, offered Paludan to burn a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, and guaranteed that he would cover all expenses.
In a statement to state television, Frick claimed that he had paid the price for the demonstration permit obtained from the police and that he would exercise his right to cover it as a journalist.
The far-right politician Waludan has been carrying out provocative acts by burning copies of the Holy Qur’an in various cities in Denmark since 2017.
But is this considered part of freedom of expression, or is it a blatant provocation of all human values stipulated by all the norms and laws in force in the world?
Isn't that an indefensible insult to sacred values under the guise of "democratic rights"?
It is ironic that this action, as the perpetrator says, was a challenge to Turkey, which opposed Sweden's accession to NATO, because Sweden is hostile to Turkey, as the latter describes them as terrorists, "terrorists under the guise of democracy." Sweden is seeking to join NATO... But these actions are inconsistent with the terms of the alliance.
Obtaining membership is "to a large extent a matter of political discretion, and above all subject to the desire of the United States, NATO's largest contributor and ultimate guarantor, through which it expands its nuclear deterrent."
Greece and Turkey, though ruled at different times by military juntas, have been members since 1952. But with the accession of post-Franco Spain in 1982, NATO membership became more intertwined with Europe's democratization.
But in 1995, the alliance set some criteria for accepting new memberships, such as: NATO's "open door" policy, according to which the alliance offers prospects for membership to all European countries willing and able to join, in addition to some other requirements such as the existence of an effective democratic political system based on Market economy, fair treatment of minorities, and commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Although Sweden claims to be a democratic country according to the Western concept, what it is doing does not allow it to join this alliance, and there are many conditions that prevent this joining, but all of this has been thrown against the wall. After the only condition became hostility to Russia.
How about feedback?
Following the decision, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned Sweden's ambassador to Ankara, Staffan Herstrom, and informed him of its condemnation of the decision in the strongest terms.
Diplomatic sources said that the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish ambassador, against the backdrop of information that his country’s authorities had allowed the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an, near the Ankara embassy in Stockholm.
According to the sources, the ministry confirmed to Ambassador Herstrom its condemnation in the strongest terms of this provocative act, which clearly amounts to hate crimes.
The ministry stressed its rejection of Sweden's position on this work, and that Turkey is waiting for the relevant authorities not to allow its practice.
Ankara, which opposes Sweden and Finland's membership in NATO, has at least three cards to put into practice to block the two countries' move.
Then came this felon, which falls under the heading of hate crimes, to increase Turkey's rejection. Turkey does not look warmly towards Finland and Sweden joining NATO, due to their role in supporting organizations that work against it, such as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Also, Helsinki and Stockholm, which imposed an arms embargo on Turkey, "do not allow the trial of the 33 terrorists that Ankara demands that they be handed over to it."
The Turkish position should not be the only one, but what is required is Arab and Islamic positions that confirm that Sweden and the West are behind it, and certainly those in charge of the NATO alliance do not hesitate to do anything to achieve their interests, which are in fact American interests.
