Greater Turkey" and "Blue Homeland" Erdogan's ambitions from the Balkans to Iraq

Afrasianet - Turkish ambitions extend from the mountains of Kurdistan and northern Syria to Libya, passing through Tunisia, which is the gateway to Europe on the southern bank of the Mediterranean.

"We wanted to say to the younger generations: This is where the new Turkey was ruled," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented years ago on the opposition's criticism of his new presidential palace overlooking the capital, Ankara.

The phrase "New Turkey" was not absurd, but rather translated the concept of "Greater Turkey" that Erdogan summed up by creating a guard representing the 16 Turkish empires, symbolized by 16 stars in the emblem of the Turkish presidency.

"Greater Turkey"

It is clear that the Turkish government is moving to the stage of imposing a fait accompli on the world to blackmail it in order to submit to its ambitions.

Glonck, a lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), tweeted calling for a "Greater Turkey" that includes large swaths of northern Greece and the eastern Aegean islands, half of Bulgaria, Cyprus and Armenia in their entirety, and large areas of Georgia, Iraq and Syria.

Gülenk also praised the Seljuk victory of 1071 over the Byzantine Empire at Manzikert at the Battle of Malaz Kurd, when the Asiatic Turks entered Anatolia for the first time in history, on the anniversary of August 26 of each year.

The publication of the map comes at a time when tensions between Turkey and Greece are flaring up against the backdrop of a dispute over oil and gas resources in the Eastern Mediterranean, in which Ankara is intervening militarily in several areas that have fueled its crises, such as northern Syria, Iraq, and Libya, in addition to its dispute with Cyprus.

Glonk claimed that Turkey has restored the spirit of a "Kurdish refuge" after the coup attempt against Erdogan four years ago, and has opened its doors to Syria, Iraq, Africa, and the Mediterranean, likening it to what happened during the Seljuk period.

According to the MP's map and tweets, the crescent of Turkish ambitions extends from the mountains of Kurdistan and northern Syria to Libya, passing through Tunisia, which is the gateway to Europe on the southern bank of the Mediterranean, with the support provided by Doha, which Ankara takes as a base against the Gulf countries, and another in Somalia near Bab al-Mandeb.

The expansion project is not limited to this field, but also expands to include Greece and Cyprus, in a map of ambitions that threaten to ignite a large part of the world, including the Balkans, i.e. part of Europe, and the entire Middle East and Africa.

"The Blue Homeland"

Coinciding with the publication of the "Greater Turkey" map, there is also a military debate in Ankara about what the latter calls the "blue homeland," a concept summarized by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar as aimed at imposing Turkey's control over the surrounding seas, such as the Black Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Erdogan's aggressive plan is taking a reference for his expansionist project based on controlling waters claimed by his neighbors in the European Union, which has created a collision course that has ignited tensions, especially since Ankara recently sent a research ship and a naval fleet to areas that Greece considers its own, causing a massive escalation of tensions.

Analysts believe that the "blue homeland" is nothing but a plan within Erdogan's project to cause unrest in an effort to force other countries to fulfill their wishes, by seeking to materialize them by seizing water areas with undemarcated borders.

The plan includes seizing more than 460,000 square kilometers of Turkey's maritime border, including the water bodies surrounding some Greek islands.

Between "Greater Turkey" and the "Blue Homeland", Ankara is putting the region on a moving land that is drowning in conflicts that it has fabricated or fueled with its military adventures and expansionism, setting fire to the neighborhood and marching towards the Balkans and Africa, aiming to achieve its colonial projects by consolidating an ideological control based on the international organization of the Brotherhood.
